RVE Meet The Buyer goes virtual

Despite the cancellation of Modern Railways RVE, the industry leading RVE Meet The Buyer event has moved online, with 370 appointments held over five days. RVE Meet The Buyer is organised by Rail Forum Midlands with support from the Department for International Trade.

Today is the day on which Modern Railways RVE was due to take place, including RVE Meet The Buyer, at Derby Arena, but sadly due to the Covid crisis the show had to be cancelled this year. However, Rail Forum Midlands has worked hard to continue to make RVE Meet The Buyer possible. Both the Modern Railways RVE exhibition and RVE Meet The Buyer will return as in person events next year on 4 November at Derby Arena.

Meetings in the virtual RVE Meet The Buyer are taking place across five days. Eighteen buyers signed up to participate, including many leading train manufacturers, leasing companies and maintenance specialists. Over 150 companies registered to participate as suppliers, submitting over 1,800 individual applications using a new two-stage online process through which they could submit more targeted applications directed at specific buyers. Most buyers received over 100 applications from which to select, and 62 individual buyers from these companies are participating in the schedule of some 370 meetings. Meetings are being held using Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Hangouts and, reflecting the international participation, are taking place in two time zones.

The success of the virtual RVE Meet The Buyer event, despite the cancellation of the show, highlights the profile of Modern Railways RVE and the importance of the show to the rolling stock sector. We are grateful to Rail Forum Midlands for their hard work in making this event possible and look forward to partnering with them again in 2021 as the show returns to Derby Arena.
